It’s really alarming and upsetting how many confessions about Willow’s sexual identity are published to this blog. It turns my stomach to see people call it “wrong”, “bi erasure”, and/or “jumping on a bandwagon”. They not only completely miss the point, they not only fail to recognize that being a non-sexualized, non-villainized lesbian on TV was most certainly NOT A BANDWAGON, but in the process, they are trying to erase the identity of a lot of lesbians out there. It’s so disrespectful. It’s like there is an overwhelming amount of people in the fandom who don’t understand that you can have a meaningful relationship (sexual or otherwise) with a man, and still later discover that you’re a lesbian. They don’t realize that Willow wasn’t in denial when she was with Oz, she was unaware. College opened her eyes, as it does for MANY people in the LGBT+ community. It happens literally all the time. Season 4 was all about change and finding yourself. I’m sick to death of people debating Willow’s orientation, when she plainly states it over and over again. It might be a different matter had she not made it clear what her preferences were. She knew what it was like to be with a man AND a woman. She discovered she preferred women. She never wanted to go back to men. She experienced both, and made a choice. I’m sick of people trying to put her in a box in which she does not fit. If the fandom is upset about bi erasure, it should have nothing to do with Willow and everything to do with Faith.
